Disneyland

Last weekend, Mason had 4 days off from school so we decided to make a trip to Disneyland.   The day we were supposed to leave, Max woke up with the flu, so we had to leave him at home. :( I didn't really want to take the kids by myself, so I brought along my little sister, Kimmy to help me.  We hadn't been to Disneyland since last June, before Cars Land opened, so we were able to see it this time around.  It was, of course, the boys' favorite part of the day, and we spent most of our time in there.  We went on the new race car ride in Radiator Springs.  It was well worth the hour we had to wait for it.  Mason thought it was a blast and Archie tolerated it (it was a bit too fast for him).  Also a first for them was going on Space Mountain.  I had to bribe them with a churro, but I'm glad I did because Mason loved it!  He has been talking about it non-stop. Archie didn't like how fast and dark it was.  It was such a fun day and I'm so grateful to my friend who got us in.

Radiator Springs!  It looks just like the movie, we were very impressed.

Our Backyard

Max's dad got the boys a big wooden play structure for Christmas.  They love it and have been playing on it non-stop!

Even the kitty plays on it. :)

Isn't it awesome?!

Archie's Health Scare

The beginning of December, Archie gave us quite a scare.   He was pooping blood every 5 minutes (it ended up lasting for 5 days).  I rushed him to the emergency room, where a few hours later, they hooked him up to an IV of fluids.  They ran some tests, but they had no immediate answers for us and sent us home.  It was so terrifying and heart-breaking to watch our baby deteriorate.  After a day of his illness, he couldn't even get up off the couch.  We had to carry him back and forth to the bathroom.  There was nothing they could do!  On the fifth day, he started to improve and they finally told us that he had e. coli.  We feel very lucky that he was able to get better on his own (they don't have a way of treating e. coli, you just have to let it take its course).  One of the dangers of having e. coli is that it can cause kidney damage.  We've been back in for tests and he has no lasting problems from it.  He's a strong boy!  As for where it came from, we're not entirely sure.  It could have come from anything that he ate, or the deer in the backyard, or another infected person.  I personally think it came from the kitties we rescued.  They were both so sickly (and one even died), so I think they're the likely culprits.

I was really nervous about how he would take to being hooked up to the IV, but he did a great job.  He insisted they put Spiderman stickers over the needle, which I think is a great idea.  We love our Archie!

Our New Kitty, Frankie

On Thanksgiving we found some kittens that had been abandoned by their mother.  We decided to bring them home.  Unfortunately, they were so young (about 3 weeks old according to the vet) and sickly, that one of them didn't make it.  The boys were devastated, but they are taking extra good care of the surviving one, Frankie.

They were so young we had to bottle feed them.  Boy, are we glad that stage is over! (Photo taken by Mason)

Christmas!

The boys got to open one present on Christmas Eve, their new jammies!  We told Mason we would choose the present he could open and he kept saying it better not be clothes!  Well, he opened it and he was not disappointed at all!  They were both so excited about their Spiderman jammies!

Christmas morning was mayhem.  My sister and her family were here visiting, so we had all 4 of her kids and both of ours ripping into presents at the same time.  I only was able to get a few pictures of them in action.

All Archie wanted was Power Rangers!  He was so excited when he opened this one.
